Chelsea have reportedly activated Tyler Adams relegation release clause, with the rumoured Liverpool target now set to join the west London side.
According to Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth, the Blues have met the Leeds United midfielder’s exit clause of £20m, with Adams set to have a medical with Chelsea in the next 24 hours.
As reported by 90min, Adams was a player who was on Liverpool’s radar, though the USA international now looks set to sign for Chelsea, with Reds supporters likely relieved that it isn’t Romeo Lavia who is heading for a medical.
The Southampton star was last night subject to an offer from Mauricio Pochettinos’s side after Liverpool had three bids rejected by the Saints for Lavia. Which is why this move for Adams could be a massive boost for the Anfield giants.
Indeed, Chelsea closing in on Adams as well as Moises Caicedo could indicate that Lavia will now be off the table for the Blues, giving Liverpool a big chance at signing the midfielder in the coming days.

Chelsea signing Adams could allow Liverpool to snatch Lavia

Adams himself would have been a fine signing for Liverpool at £20m, with the Leeds dynamo adding much-needed leadership and defensive steel to the Reds’ midfield. However, there’s no denying that Lavia is the real prize this month.
Chelsea’s bid for the Belgian threw a lot of doubt on if Liverpool could even complete a deal for the midfielder having had three bids shot down by Southampton. But the Blues signing Adams might have just changed everything.
As we know, the west London side are pushing to sign Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion, and with Adams close, signing a third defensive midfielder in Lavia would be strange, much to Liverpool’s transfer hopes.
