Liverpool are reportedly still locked in talks with Southampton to sign Romeo Lavia, with the Reds having three bids rejected for the midfielder.

According to Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth, the Merseyside remain in discussions with the Saints over signing the 19-year-old prospect, with Southampton still holding out for £50m for Lavia.

The journalist said: “Talks are ongoing, so I think there’s a deal to be done there. The fact that Liverpool have made three bids would suggest that they desperately want to bring in the player.”

Liverpool have this week had a third bid turned down by the Championship side, with frustrations now growing that the Anfield side will fail to bring Lavia back to the Premier League this summer.

Praised by Total Football Analysis as a ‘ridiculous’ talent, Liverpool’s next attempt to sign Lavia could be the last the Reds ever make given Southampton’s stubbornness over the midfielder.

Yet following on from this latest update, there’s a good chance that Liverpool could strike a breakthrough with the Saints to sign Lavia, who seems intent on moving to the Premier League giants this month.

Liverpool’s interest in Lavia is at a fever-pitch, with the Reds now potentially ready to finally pay Southampton the £50m they want for the Belgian international this window.

And if the Anfield outlet want to actually bring Lavia to Liverpool, they will have to now bow down to the Saints’ demands and cough up what the Championship side have demanded all summer.

It might be a bitter pill for Liverpool to swallow, but there’s no denying that Lavia could be worth the investment in the years to come for Jurgen Klopp.
