Manchester United are reportedly in talks to sign Benjamin Pavard, with Liverpool also rumoured to be interested in the Bayern Munich defender.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils have begun discussions with the French international over a transfer, with Pavard likely to join United as a replacement for Harry Maguire.
The centre-back, who can also play at right-back, has been strongly linked with a move away from Bayern this summer, with Liverpool one of the leading clubs interested in signing Pavard.

However, United have now seemingly taken a convincing lead in the race to sign the Bayern superstar, with Liverpool potentially set to miss out on Pavard unless they can get a plan of action into place.
Lauded as ‘world-class’ by former Bayern manager Niko Kovac, Pavard could have been the dream summer signing for Liverpool had the Reds had the finances to pull off a deal earlier in the window.

However, it’s United who now stand with a chance of signing Pavard, with the Frenchman likely to relish with the chance of playing for the Manchester giants, despite interest from Liverpool.
Liverpool missing out on Pavard to Manchester United will hurt

In terms of a defensive signing for Liverpool this summer, Pavard could have been the dream addition given his ability to cover both centrally and out on the right for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Which is why United now opening talks for Pavard will sting so much for Liverpool, who could now miss out on the perfect summer signing to add to their defensive ranks.
With United having an exceptional window, selling Maguire to bring in Pavard could be a masterstroke from Erik Ten Hag, with Liverpool again left on the sideline looking for an alternative.
