Liverpool are reportedly interested in Irish wonderkid Mason Melia, though the teenager is currently on trial at Premier League rivals Manchester City.

According to the Daily Mail, the Reds are one of a handful of clubs keeping tabs on the 15-year-old striker, who this year became the youngest goalscorer in the history of the League of Ireland Premier Division.

Regarded as one of the Republic of Ireland’s best prospects in some years, Melia has caught the attention of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Liverpool one of the sides chasing the attacker.

However, the teenager is now currently on trial with City, with Manchester giants again looking to add a world-class prospect to their academy ranks ahead of their Premier League rivals.

Missing out on Melia will be a huge blow for Liverpool given their huge links to Irish football, especially with the forward as promising as he is.

Indeed, Melia is already an Irish youth international and has made numerous senior appearances for St Patrick’s Athletic this season, and Liverpool will be gutted to miss out on the wonderkid to City.

Liverpool eyeing Melia is perhaps no real surprise, yet with the Irish talent now on trial at City, the Reds can’t allow a Premier League rival to sign the teenager.

Melia has shown this year in his homeland that he has the potential to become quite the player at the right club, and Liverpool could be ideal for the teenager instead of a move to City.

With competition fierce, Liverpool are already in a tough position when it comes to signing Melia, yet the Anfield side could present a winning pitch to recruit the striker in the coming weeks.
