Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has praised Luis Diaz for some ‘flying’ form over pre-season.
Diaz topped off an excellent summer for Liverpool last night, scoring an amazing backheeled flick to complete the scoring against Darmstadt. It was his third goal in five friendly games, building anticipation for the season ahead.
One man who has certainly been impressed is new teammate Mac Allister. After Diaz took to Instagram after last night’s 3-1 win to declare himself ‘ready to start,’ the Argentinian could be spotted in the comments.
“Estas volando,” Mac Allister wrote to his South American companion. “You are flying.”
He certainly is, Alexis. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for the Premier League this season.

Diaz sends reminder of quality
There were many problems with Liverpool’s campaign last time out. The midfield was undercooked and the defence sorely lacking. In short, there was trouble pretty much all over the pitch.
But one issue that was perhaps overlooked amidst the chaos was just how much the Reds missed Luis Diaz.
After his £38m January arrival in 2021/22, the Colombian announced himself as a potential superstar. His direct running, unpredictability and eye for goal quickly made him one of the most feared forwards in the country. He was all primed for a big year.
Initially, it looked like that’s exactly what Liverpool would be getting from Diaz. The 26-year-old bagged three goals in the opening four Premier League games including a screamer against Crystal Palace.
But having dragged the Reds through some poor early season form, a knee injury in October wrecked the remainder of his campaign.
Diaz did return to play a part in Liverpool’s run-in, but was understandably rusty as he got back up to speed.
With a full pre-season behind him, that rust looks to have been now shaken off. If there’s one benefit of Diaz’s injury last year, it’s that Premier League defenders forgot just how good he is. As Mac Allister suggests, they’ll get their memories jogged soon enough. Vamos, Lucho!
