Chelsea reportedly remain in contention to sign Romeo Lavia, though Liverpool are still favourites for the Southampton midfielder.

According to the Guardian, the Blues are keeping tabs on the Belgian international as Chelsea continue to stumble in their bid to sign Moises Caicedo, with Brighton & Hove Albion sticking to their £100m valuation.

As a result, Chelsea remain in the race for Lavia, though as per the report, Liverpool are still the side that are the most likely to sign the midfielder this summer.

The Reds have made three reported bids for the former Manchester City prospect in the last few weeks, and there’s a general feeling that the saga could come to a head in the coming days ahead of the new Premier League season.

However, Chelsea’s renewed interest in Lavia could cause Liverpool some problems, with the west London unlikely to blink when it comes to matching Southampton’s £50m asking price for the 19-year-old.

Praised by Total Football Analysis as a ‘phenomenal’ talent, Lavia would be an ideal fit for either Chelsea or Liverpool this summer, and Jurgen Klopp’s side could now be under pressure to complete a deal for the youngster soon.

Liverpool still remain the firm favourites for Lavia, yet given Chelsea’s record in the transfer window in the last 12 months, the Blues are always a threat for any Premier League side.

Should Chelsea’s bid to sign Caicedo once again collapse, there’s a real chance that their attention could turn to Lavia if Liverpool have not yet secured a deal to bring the midfielder to Anfield.

As a result, Liverpool have to get a move on in signing Lavia, with time now running out in their bid to recruit the Belgian international in the coming days.
