Liverpool are reportedly weighing up a move for FC Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie, who is allowed to leave the Camp Nou this summer.

According to Sport, the Reds are the latest club to join the race for the Ivory Coast international, with Barcelona open to selling Kessie to raise funds for additional signings this window.

As per the report, Liverpool could join Premier League rivals Tottenham as well as Juventus in the battle to sign Kessie, who only signed for Barcelona last summer from AC Milan on a free transfer.

Praised by Pat Nevin as a ‘very special’ player, Kessie would be quite the addition for Liverpool given the recent departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, with the Barcelona man known for his athleticism and versatility.

Indeed, Liverpool’s need for a midfielder coupled with Barcelona’s eagerness to sell any unwanted player could result in the Reds making an honest attempt to sign Kessie this summer.

The Ivorian’s reputation and experience in both Europe and across La Liga and Serie A make Kessie primed for a Premier League move, with Liverpool the ideal destination for the midfielder.

Liverpool’s midfield demands are clear for everyone to see, and Kessie could be a great left-field option given what the former Milan star brings to a top club like the Reds.

Able to operate in numerous roles and one of the fittest midfielders in the market, Kessie ticks a lot of boxes for what Liverpool are looking for in a replacement for Henderson and Fabinho.

With Barcelona also looking to sell, a transfer could be easy enough to pull off, with Liverpool more than capable of negotiating a good deal with the La Liga giants for the Ivorian midfielder this window.
