Cody Gakpo was hailed as one of Liverpool’s best players in their pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich.
Speaking on LFCTV, former Liverpool Women’s striker Natasha Dowie was full of praise for the Dutch international after his early goal for the Reds against the German giants.
Gakpo found the net within the first two minutes with a fantastic run and finish to put Liverpool ahead, with the winger being a constant threat for the Anfield side against Bayern in Singapore.

Gakpo has been a consistent performer for Liverpool this summer and will be a contender to start the opening game of the Premier League season against Chelsea, and the 24-year-old certainly impressed today.
Dowie said when asked about Gakpo’s goal: “They started really lively and Gakpo for me has been one of the standout performers this half. He started the play by coming in deep, sitting deep and then went for the second ball as well.

“He showed real pace and composure here. It’s a great finish. At first I thought the defender may recover in time but on his weaker foot he’s put that away really well. This is what I love, the way he comes in and is involved in the play and in that pocket. It’s really clever.”
Gakpo was Liverpool’s most dangerous player against Bayern

Starting the game as Liverpool’s focal point in the attack, Gakpo didn’t need long to get his name on the scoresheet as Bayern’s defence were still half asleep at kick-off.
Whilst the main takeaway from this game will be Liverpool’s defensive issues, Gakpo’s performance was one massive positive for the Reds, with the Dutchman the most dangerous player on the pitch.
With Darwin Nunez in great form this summer, Jurgen Klopp has a massive decision to make before the start of the season on who should lead the line for the Reds, with Gakpo putting his name firmly in the mix for the role today.
