Jurgen Klopp has praised Curtis Jones after the Liverpool midfielder’s performance today against Bayern Munich in the no. 6 role.

Speaking to LFCTV, the Reds manager was impressed with the 22-year-old’s display in the Liverpool midfield, with Klopp saying about Jones: “Curtis played a really good game in new position for him.”

Starting in a midfield alongside Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, Jones acted in the holding role in what was quite an attack-minded selection from Klopp, a choice that showed in Liverpool’s defending on the day.

A lack of quality defensive midfielder showed against Bayern, yet Jones still impressed against the German giants, with the youngster continuing his good form from last season and this summer’s U-21 Euros.

Jones’ form could see the midfielder make a surprise start in Liverpool’s first game of the Premier League season against Chelsea, and the 22-year-old’s display today could aid his case in the weeks to come.

Indeed, Klopp’s praise for Jones is another key indicator for what’s to come from the midfielder next season, with the Kirkby academy graduate likely to see his role evolve in the coming months.

Liverpool’s midfield selection for next season could be as fluid as it is unpredictable, yet Jones could have a strong case for getting into Klopp’s starting XI.

The youngster was arguably Liverpool’s best midfielder towards the end of the last campaign, and Jones’ campaign for England in the U-21 Euros saw the 22-year-old become one of the side’s most important players.

With options to chose from, Jones standing out in a new role will go a long way in the midfielder reaching a new level, with recent performances more than encouraging.
