Liverpool have reportedly won the race to sign Leicester City prospect Trey Nyoni, with the midfielder now set to join the Reds’ academy system.

According to the Secret Scout, the Merseyside giants have beaten rival sides to sign the 16-year-old England youth international, with Nyoni considered as ‘one of the best’ talents in the entire country.

Liverpool have made few additions to their academy this summer, with 14-year-old Harvey Owen from Wolves the only major addition to the Reds youth ranks this window.

However, the signing of Nyoni could represent a significant capture for Liverpool, with the Leicester teenager last season impressing in the U-18 Premier League and FA Youth Cup with the Foxes.

And now, the midfielder will take his talents to Liverpool this summer, with Nyoni another exciting addition to the Anfield side’s academy and a player who could one day feature under Jurgen Klopp in the seniors.

Liverpool are no strangers to sign England’s brightest and best for their academy, and the capture of Nyoni is just another example of the work the Reds put on behind the scenes to keep their youth ranks stocked.

And the teenage midfielder could see his exciting potential realised at Liverpool, with the Merseyside giants having one of the best academy systems in the entire country that has produced fantastic players in recent years.

Whilst Nyoni might not become the next Steven Gerrard, the teenager could soon follow the likes of Curtis Jones and Trent Alexander-Arnold from the Liverpool academy into the senior team, a dream for many youth players.
