Liverpool have reportedly met with former manager Rafa Benitez over the potential signing of Gabri Veiga, with the Celta Vigo star heavily linked with a move to England this summer.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, a senior Anfield official met with Benitez, now manager of the La Liga side, over a deal for Veiga, with Liverpool discussing the prospect of signing the midfielder and shipping him out on loan.
With a £34m release clause, no Premier League side, including Liverpool, is yet to make a concrete attempt to sign Veiga despite plenty of rumours this summer, with the Spanish youngster enjoying a breakout year last season.

Indeed, Liverpool’s hunt for a midfielder could take them back to Galicia for Veiga, where the youngster’s goalscoring qualities could make the 21-year-old an interesting option for Jurgen Klopp.
And Liverpool have seemingly made their move, with Jacobs saying: “Liverpool haven’t moved for Veiga, but they scouted him and there was a recent conversation between someone senior at Liverpool and Rafa Benitez.

“The feeling was that there might be an opportunity to sign and loan back because the player’s so adamant that if he moves to a big Premier League club, he needs instant game time.”
Benitez’s links to Liverpool could make Veiga a realistic signing

Veiga has been linked with Liverpool for what feels like forever, yet Celta Vigo appointing Benitez as their new manager could make the Reds the favourites for the Spanish youth international.
As we know, the Spanish coach is an icon at Anfield, and if Liverpool were keen on signing Veiga, Benitez. without question. would be pushing the midfielder to join the Merseyside giants this summer.
And with Liverpool once again in the market for a midfielder, pursuing Veiga could be a realistic option for the Reds, especially with Benitez having a say on Celta Vigo’s transfers this window.
