Chelsea could reportedly hijack Liverpool’s move for Romeo Lavia, with the Southampton midfielder closing in on a move to Anfield.
According to the Independent, the Blues could now make their own attempt to recruit the Belgian international with Liverpool set to launch a £45m bid for Lavia having already had one offer turned down this week.
Lavia has emerged as a leading target for Liverpool with Jordan Henderson’s exit confirmed today as Fabinho looks set to join the English international in Saudi Arabia via Al-Ittihad.

Yet Chelsea could now ruin Liverpool’s masterplan if they move for Lavia, with the midfielder potentially open on a move to Stamford Bridge to play regular football under Mauricio Pochettino.
As a result, Liverpool will have to act fast to wrap up Lavia’s signature, with the Reds yet to make their second offer for the Southampton star despite growing tensions.

Indeed, whilst this update could be a cause for concern the reality is that Liverpool still remain in a great position to sign the midfielder, especially of they can launch their second bid for the Belgian in the coming days.
Liverpool should still beat Chelsea to Lavia this summer

Lavia has never looked closer to a move to Liverpool than he does right now. And as a result, Chelsea should not be viewed by the Reds as a real threat for this transfer.
Whilst there have been some famous cases of the Blues hijacking deals, Lavia to Liverpool looks on the verge of being completed, with the midfielder seemingly keen on a move to Anfield.
With a £45m bid also on its way, it could be a matter of days before Lavia is confirmed as a new Liverpool player, with Chelsea seemingly focused on Moises Caicedo and other targets.
