Chelsea will soon reportedly drop their interest in signing Romeo Lavia, with the Blues now thinking that the midfielder is close to joining Liverpool.

According to Football London, Mauricio Pochettino’s side will soon focus their attention on signing Moises Caicedo with Lavia now close to joining Liverpool, with a £45m bid being made today for the Southampton star.

Chelsea have been strongly linked with Lavia ever since the teenager moved to the Saints last year, with the Blues looking like early-summer favourites to sign the Belgian international heading into this window.

However, Liverpool have since taken a storming lead for Lavia, with the Reds now expected to complete a deal for the 19-year-old talent as their third major signing of the summer market.

Jordan Henderson’s departure to Saudi Arabia has seemingly freed up room in the budget to move for Lavia, with Fabinho also expected to leave Liverpool in a £40m deal.

Indeed, Chelsea could have pushed harder for Lavia had they wanted to. But with the west London giants focusing their efforts on Caicedo, it seemed clear early on that Liverpool were going to win this transfer race.

Praised by Total Football Analysis as a ‘phenomenal’ talent, Lavia to Liverpool now feels like it has never been closer to being completed with Chelsea soon out of the picture.

The Blues once posed a real threat for Jurgen Klopp in the battle to sign the Belgian international. However, Liverpool now have no real excuse to miss out on the midfielder in the coming days.

With talks with Southampton ongoing, Liverpool will soon reach an agreement with the Saints for Lavia, who could soon become the Reds’ newest midfield superstar and a good replacement for Fabinho in the starting XI.
