Liverpool have reportedly had a £37m transfer offer rejected by Southampton for Romeo Lavia.
According to the Athletic, the Reds have made an opening bid to sign the Belgian international, though the Saints have shot down Liverpool’s first attempt for Lavia, with Southampton sticking to their £37m asking price.
As per the report, Lavia has emerged as a top target for Liverpool as the Merseyside giants look to add to their midfield ranks ahead of the pending departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia.

Hailed by Total Football Analysis as a ‘phenomenal’ talent, Lavia was one of the breakout stars of the Premier League last season despite Southampton finishing in 20th place.
As a result, Lavia is now one of the most wanted players in the English market this summer, and Liverpool’s opening bid for the midfielder is a testament to how good the 19-year-old could one day become.
Indeed, Southampton’s £50m demand for Lavia is unrealistic, but Liverpool’s power in the transfer room could mean the Reds secure the midfielder’s services well below this asking price, with £37m a good starting point.
Liverpool have to keep pushing for Lavia

Liverpool’s opening offer for Lavia might have been rejected, but there’s still plenty of time for the Anfield side to reach an agreement with Southampton for their wonderkid midfielder.
As we know, Southampton want the best fee possible for Lavia. And with Liverpool’s impressive track record in getting good deals for transfers a known fact, good work could be made in securing an agreement.
The opening bid might not be what Southampton wanted, but more talks and further discussions will only push Liverpool in the right direction for Lavia, who looks more certain than ever to move to Anfield.
