Curtis Jones blown away by two ‘world-class’ Liverpool players in training

Curtis Jones has admitted that he has been impressed with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai in Liverpool training this pre-season.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the 22-year-old youngster lauded the pair having both arrived on Merseyside this summer, with the duo expected to compete for midfield spots in the new season.

With Jones ending the last campaign on an incredible high and then going one step further this summer with England’s U-21s, there’s a real chance that the midfielder could lose his spot in the starting Xi to the new boys.

However, Jones is seemingly determined to keep his place in the team even with the arrivals of Mac Allister and Szoboszlai, who the Liverpool academy graduate hailed as ‘world-class’ players.

The midfield talent said: “The lads who have come in this summer we know are world-class, but I don’t think it changes anything for me in terms of how I think and the things I’m doing.

“I know if I go out there and play it’s a chance to show I am good enough to play in the next game. It’s all on me.”

Jones knows starts are no longer guaranteed at Liverpool

Jones heads into the new season in the form of his life having led England’s U-21 to glory this summer, yet with Liverpool spending big on new midfielders, the 22-year-old is more than aware that starts are no longer guaranteed.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold also expected to fully evolve into a midfielder, it has arguably never been harder for a player like Jones to break into the Liverpool starting XI.

However, the youngster has shattered the odds time and time again in Liverpool’s senior team, and Jones knows that he has the quality to once again make a name for himself at his boyhood club next season.
