Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has tipped Levi Colwill to become one of England’s greatest-ever centre-backs, with Liverpool interested in the youngster.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, the west London boss was full of praise for the England youth international after Chelsea’s 4-3 win against Brighton & Hove Albion in Philadelphia.

Colwill has been strongly linked with a move away from the Blues this summer, with the Seagulls even having a £40m bid rejected for Colwill as Liverpool continue to chase the 20-year-old center-back.

Indeed, Liverpool’s odds of signing Colwill have never been smaller. And based on how much the defender has impressed Chelsea’s new manager, a sale looks even more unlikely this summer for the Reds.

Pochettino said when asked about Colwill’s potential and if the England youth international will stay at Chelsea this summer: “He is going to continue with us.

“I am happy with him, his performance was good today, better than what I expected because it is only the first game with us after the season with Brighton. I am so happy, he can be one of the greatest centre-backs in England.”

Colwill was always going to be an ambitious move for Liverpool. But with the defender now drawing such praise from his new manager, Jurgen Klopp might as well throw in the towel now for the youngster.

As we know, Pochettino is a huge advocate for playing young players and cracking into a prospect’s potential. And the Chelsea boss could already be doing something similar with Colwill.

Moreover, with the Argentine coach labelling Colwill as a potential all-time great for England, Chelsea will now do all they can to keep the defender on their books, much to Liverpool’s dismay.
