Liverpool officials now against signing ‘phenomenal’ Man City player

Liverpool officials have reportedly given off the impression that they don’t want to sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City this summer.

According to the Telegraph, figures within Anfield are reluctant to give their Premier League rivals millions of pounds to sign one of their players, with Phillips heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer.

As per the report, Liverpool’s search for new midfielders is set to go into overdrive following the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, who are both bound for Saudi Arabia.

Yet one surprise target in recent weeks for Jurgen Klopp’s side has been Phillips, with the City midfielder enduring a rough first year at the Etihad Stadium having signed from Leeds United last summer.

The England international’s time so far in Manchester has been plagued with injuries and a lack of playing time. Yet despite this, a move to Liverpool looks unlikely for Phillips.

Indeed, Red officials are now seemingly reluctant to give their Premier League rivals any more funds to make signings of their own, even if Phillips is an ideal player for Liverpool to acquire this summer.

Liverpool’s new Phillips stance could backfire this summer

On the surface, it makes sense why some figures at Liverpool would be opposed to signing a player from City if it means giving Pep Guardiola’s side legitimate revenue to make signings in the window.

However, given Liverpool’s need for a defensive midfielder and few options out there on the market, Phillips, lauded as ‘phenomenal’ by England teammate Kieran Trippier, could be an ideal signing for the Anfield side.

Moreover, the England international could revel in the chance to play regular football again at a top Premier League side, especially under a manager as good as Klopp who could get the best out of the midfielder.
