Jorg Schmadtke has suggested that Liverpool may look for further signings from the Bundesliga this summer.
The Reds have already brought in Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig and are on the hunt for more additions.
With Schmadtke seemingly brought in for his expertise on German football, it would make sense for them to return to a market he knows well. And speaking openly to Sky Germany today, the 59-year-old suggested that could be the case.

“Of course, there are always players in Germany who are attractive,” Schmadtke explains. “Then my experience in the market is in demand. Because, of course, I know a little bit how the other side is paid, how the other side proceeds in negotiations.
“The German market is my home market and of course easier for me. But it’s not like we’ve now pointed all our telescopes at Germany.”
Schmadtke makes Bundesliga admission
To Liverpool fans used to not hearing a peep from Michael Edwards and Julian Ward, Schmadtke’s interview may be a bit of a surprise.
We’ve become accustomed to the Reds doing their business virtually in secret. It’s both refreshing and a little worrying to hear the current sporting director speak so candidly.
Of course, Jorg doesn’t give too much away. But nevertheless, it feels a little strange.

What it does do is show the marked differences between what Schmadtke was doing in Germany and what he’s doing at Liverpool.
Back in his homeland, the sporting director role is almost like the public face of the club. They often conduct interviews on all matter of topics. Not sought after by the British press, perhaps ‘Schmaddy’ was missing the limelight a little.
Either way, it shouldn’t impact him from doing his job with Liverpool. There are indeed a number of attractive options in the Bundesliga for the Reds, and some they could well be exploring.
The likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Manu Kone remains perhaps the most likely deals for Schmadtke to pull off. But players such as Micky van de Ven and even Jesper Lindstrom are possibly still on the table, too. Plenty of work for Jorg to get stuck into.
