Liverpool could reportedly now have to pay a huge transfer fee to sign Florentino Luis, with Benfica unwilling to lose the midfielder for cheap.

According to the Independent, the Portuguese giants are resigned to selling another key central midfielder this year having lost Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea in January, with Liverpool now being sent a message that they could have to cough up a big fee to land the 23-year-old.

Florentino has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks as the Reds continue their search for a third central midfield signing, with the former Portuguese youth international now standing out as an ideal option for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

A successful ball-winner, Florentino was key to Benfica reclaiming the Liga NOS title last season as the youngster asserted himself as a regular in for the Lisbon giants. And a move to the Premier League with Liverpool could now be on the cards.

However, this latest update seemingly indicates that the Reds will have to pay a pretty penny if they’re to sign Florentino. And given how tight Liverpool have been with resources this summer, news like this is the last thing the Merseyside giants would have wanted to hear.

Florentino could be a smart replacement for Fabinho should the Brazilian make the move to Saudi Arabia this week. Yet with Benfica now putting their stall out early for the midfielder, Liverpool could be forced into rethinking their interest in the 23-year-old.

As we know, Liverpool are in the market for a defensive-minded midfielder who will come at a reasonable price. And given how stern Benfica are when it comes to transfers, Florentino could soon become an unrealistic target for the Reds if their demands price too high this summer.
