Jurgen Klopp has potentially hinted at who will be Liverpool’s next captain amid Jordan Henderson’s exit to Saudi Arabia, with Virgil van Dijk taking the armband this evening in a pre-season friendly.
As per journalist Neil Jones, the Dutch international lead the Reds out in Germany against Karlsruhe SC, with news breaking just minutes later from Fabrizio Romano that Liverpool had agreed a deal with Al-Ettifaq to sell Henderson to Steven Gerrard’s new side.
Van Dijk is no stranger to the captain’s armband having worn it for the Netherlands as well as Liverpool on the odd occasion over the years. And there’s now a strong chance that Klopp could now elect the centre-back as Henderson’s successor in the coming days.
A regular for Liverpool and one of the best defenders in the world, Van Dijk has all the qualities to be an outstanding captain for the Anfield side, with fans no doubt excited about the prospect of the former Southampton defender taking over the armband.
Van Dijk the best candidate to replace Henderson as Liverpool captain

Van Dijk has always held a key leadership role within the Liverpool squad ever since joining the club from the Saints. And with Henderson now quitting Anfield for one last payday in Saudi Arabia, the Dutch superstar could be the dream replacement for the 33-year-old midfielder.
As we know, Van Dijk is a huge presence on the pitch and a popular figure around Liverpool both on and off the pitch. And Klopp giving the defender the armband today in Germany is a big hint that the centre-back is in line to replace Henderson as the new leader on Merseyside.
