Liverpool youngster Lewis Koumas is starstruck that he is training alongside Luis Diaz, with the teenager part of Jurgen Klopp’s pre-season squad.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the 17-year-old discussed how surreal it feels this summer to be included with the senior players in the first leg of Liverpool’s pre-season plans, with Koumas one of many academy graduates in Germany with the first-team.
A prolific forward in the U-18 Premier League last season, Koumas will be hopeful of earning some minutes under Klopp this summer as Liverpool prepares to take on Karlsruher SC and Greuther Furth in the next six days, with the upcoming campaign expected to be a big one for the teenager.

Indeed, the summer is often the perfect time for a young prospect like Koumas to show their worth to the first-team manager. And the forward could make a good impression if given a chance by Klopp to play some minutes in Germany and Singapore.
Koumas said on taking part of Liverpool’s pre-season plans: “Honestly being here it literally feels like I’m behind a screen. Seeing players I look up to – for example, Luis Diaz, I remember watching him at Anfield last season and now I’m behind him. It just feels crazy, to be honest.”
Koumas could be Liverpool’s surprise success of the summer

Pre-season is where young players can set their path for the upcoming campaign, and with Koumas part of the squad, there’s a chance that the 17-year-old could be the surprise success story of the summer if given the chance to lead the line.
As we know, Koumas impressed last season with the U-18s with 12 goals in 13 games. And with Klopp now taking the forward with him to Germany, the youngster will want to impress the Anfield boss with performances against two good German sides.
