Chelsea have reportedly had a £70m offer rejected by Brighton & Hove Albion for Moises Caicedo, with Liverpool also chasing the 21-year-old.

According to the Athletic, the Blues have been shot down by the Seagulls a second time in their bid to sign the Ecuador international, with Brighton unwilling to part with Caicedo having already lost Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool this summer.

As per the report, Roberto De Zerbi’s side want as much as £100m for the superstar midfielder, a transfer fee that the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool might be unwilling to pay even when considering how good a prospect Caicedo is.

The South American was one of the stars of the Premier League last season as the south coast side qualified for Europe for the first time in their history. And as a result, Caicedo is a wanted man, with Chelsea and Liverpool just two sides chasing the midfielder.

Indeed, Mauricio Pochettino’s side being rejected a second time by Brighton will be quite the blow for Chelsea. And for Liverpool, seeing a rival side being turned down with a £70m offer might be a telling sign that Caicedo is not the player the Reds should be looking at.

Liverpool would be smart to move on from £100m-rated Caicedo

Lauded by Chris Sutton as an ‘unbelievable’ player, Brighton are well within their right to demand as much as they want for Caicedo. And for Liverpool, now would be a good time to move on from the 21-year-old given the size of the bid Chelsea have just been turned down for.

As we know, Liverpool can only spend so much on a third midfield signing this summer. And whilst Caicedo would be a dream addition, Brighton’s demands are already entering the realm of unrealistic for the Reds, with £100m simply too much for the youngster.
