Andy Robertson has praised the immediate impact of new Liverpool signings Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
The two midfielders were brought in nice and early in this year’s transfer window, enabling them to enjoy a full pre-season with the Reds. And speaking to liverpoolfc.com about his new teammates, Robertson said he’s in no doubt they’ll be a success at Anfield.
“They’ve settled in very well,” says the left-back. “Obviously the fans will want to see them on the pitch and the fans will want to see how they do in the Premier League and so on. But the first couple of days what they’ve done is settle in quite seamlessly.

“It’s a very open squad. It’s a good squad if you’re a new player to come into. We welcome everyone with open arms and try to settle them down as much as possible. I think we’ve done that.
“And then on the pitch you see their quality – I don’t think anyone has questioned their quality throughout their career. That’s why we’ve paid the money to get them. They’re showing their quality, they’re showing what they’ve got, they’re learning the way that we need them to play, and then I’m sure the fans are excited to see them because we are definitely excited to see how they do in the Premier League.
“From what I’ve seen so far, I’ve got no doubts they will be a success at this club.”
New signings settling in well
The long and short of this matter is that Liverpool need both Mac Allister and Szoboszlai to be successes next season. With Fabinho and Jordan Henderson on the verge of leaving the club, that has become an even greater necessity.
Their midfield wasn’t the only problem last season. But most of the Reds’ issues did seem to stem from not having a sufficiently robust middle of the pitch.
There’s a lot of hope that the youth and legs of Mac Allister and Szoboszlai will remedy that almost immediately. The Argentine in particular already looks to be catching Jurgen Klopp’s eye with his defensive awareness in training.

This will be absolutely crucial to ensuring Liverpool are higher up the table come next May.
Obviously, there may need to be a period of patience for supporters to go through first, though. Szoboszlai and Mac Allister have never played together before, and neither have ever been teammates with any of the Liverpool squad before either.
That may mean that without the likes of Fabinho and Henderson around them, new ideas take longer to bed in.
But it also gives both players the chance to really stamp their mark as Liverpool’s new midfield lynchpin. Hopefully that carrot gives Szoboszlai and Mac Allister the kick up the backside they need to hit the ground running. Early signs are good, let’s keep it going.
