‘Incredible’ midfielder valued at £100m after claims Liverpool are interested

Brighton & Hove Albion have insisted that Moises Caicedo will only leave for £100m this summer, with Liverpool interested in signing the midfielder.

According to the Athletic, the Seagulls are eager to keep hold of the Ecuador international this window, though interest from Chelsea is beginning the gather pace, with Liverpool also heavily linked with a move for Caicedo in recent weeks.

With Fabinho set to complete a move to Saudi Arabia this week, Caicedo could be the dream signing for Liverpool as a long-term defensive midfielder. However, Brighton’s asking price for the 21-year-old could now be a major obstacle for the Reds.

Praised by Sussex Live for his ‘incredible’ performances for Brighton last season, the Seagulls are within their right to demand as high an asking price for Caicedo given that the south coast side have already lost Alexis Mac Allister this summer.

Moreover, £100m is well outside Liverpool’s budget for a Fabinho replacement given the lack of UEFA Champions League football next season, even with Caicedo the perfect heir to the Brazilian international for many years to come.

Brighton are aware of the interest surrounding Caicedo this summer. And in demanding £100m for the midfielder, the Seagulls have put themselves in a position where they will receive a club-record fee for their star prospect should Liverpool or Chelsea move for the Ecuadorian.

Indeed, the Reds could stretch their finances to submit a reasonable offer for Caicedo. Yet with more signings needed, going all-out for the midfielder would be quite the foolish endeavor for Liverpool in this particular transfer window.
