Fabinho has reportedly held conversations with Al-Ittihad manager Nuno Espirito Santo over a potential move, with the Liverpool midfielder close to moving to Saudi Arabia.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Brazilian international has held talks with the former Tottenham coach about signing for the Middle Eastern club, with Fabinho on the verge of departing Anfield for a move to Al-Ittihad, joining the likes of Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante at the club.

Romano said on Fabinho’s talks with Nuno: “Fabinho said ‘yes’ to Al-Ittihad. He had a conversation with the manager, Nuno, who really wants him. Now it’s crucial for the two clubs to reach an agreement for Fabinho to become a new Al-Ittihad player.”

With a transfer fee of £40m on the table for the 29-year-old, it now feels like a matter of ‘when’ Fabinho will leave Liverpool rather than ‘if’, with the Reds already expected to move for a replacement midfielder once the deal is finalised and official.

Indeed, Fabinho meeting with Nuno and giving the Portuguese coach his word over a deal is a massive indicator that the midfielder wants the move to happen. And if so, the Brazilian could now be key in helping Liverpool make a final push in the transfer market.

Few would have expected Fabinho to leave Liverpool this summer, especially for £40m. Yet Al-Ittihad have provided the Reds with just that lifeline, and the transfer going through will be key for the Reds in signing that one last midfielder to help the squad evolve.

As we know, Fabinho leaving will open the door for Liverpool to sign another target in either Romeo Lavia or Ryan Gravenberch. And whilst the Brazilian’s departure is unexpected, few fans will disagree with the transfer, especially with how much Al-Ittihad are putting down for the 29-year-old.
