Georginio Wijnaldum has reportedly been banished from training with PSG’s first-team, with new manager Luis Enrique keen on offloading the former Liverpool star this summer.

According to RMC Sport, players placed on the transfer list by the Parisian club will be training away from the senior team, a list that includes Wijnaldum having failed to make any sort of impression in France since joining from Liverpool in 2021.

Once lauded as ‘sensational’ by Jurgen Klopp, Wijnaldum was key to Liverpool’s Premier League and UEFA Champions League win before moving to PSG when his contract expired two years ago. However, since leaving Anfield, things have not gone to plan for the Dutch international.

A disappointing first year in Paris resulted in Wijnaldum signing for AS Roma on loan last summer. However, injury limited the midfielder to just a handful of appearances under Jose Mourinho, with PSG now looking to sell the 32-year-old for good this window.

Indeed, few would have expected Wijnaldum to flop this badly in Ligue 1 with PSG. And with the former Newcastle United man now training away from the first-team, a move could soon be on the cards for the Liverpool hero.

Wijnaldum finds himself in a difficult position at Paris. Having left Liverpool two years ago, a player the Reds are still arguably trying to replace, the midfielder can’t seem to get his career back off the ground after five incredible years at Anfield. And as a result, a move has to be on the cards this summer.

At 32 and with Euro 2024 just around the corner, Wijnaldum will have to do everything in his power to push through a move if he’s to win himself a place in the Netherlands squad for next summer’s competition, something that could already be in the making as we speak.
