Virgil van Dijk couldn’t help but smile at what he spotted on Alexis Mac Allister’s phone during his first day as a Liverpool player.
Mac Allister began life as a Red yesterday, reporting for his first ever training session at the AXA. As ever, LFCTV were on hand to film it all, and they captured a nice moment between the Argentine and Van Dijk.
With Alexis enjoying a massage in the gym, Liverpool’s No.4 walks past and spots the new boy’s phone on the side.

Van Dijk lifts it up to show Mac Allister, revealing a picture of the Argentina international kissing the World Cup trophy he won back in December.
With Virgil’s Netherlands side knocked out by Mac Allister and co in the quarter-finals of the tournament, the centre-back gives a wide and knowing smile to his new teammate.
The Reds new No.10 could only lie back and laugh as Van Dijk chuckled his way. A nice way to break any tension that may have been lingering. Classic Virgil.
Van Dijk breaks Mac Allister tension
Had Van Dijk been a different kind of character, he may not have so openly welcomed this display from Mac Allister.
Of course, it isn’t his business what the 24-year-old puts on his phone. The World Cup win will probably end up being the highlight of Alexis’ career. He’s right to celebrate that however he wants.
But not only were the Netherlands knocked out by Argentina in Qatar, they played out one of the most ill-tempered World Cup games in recent memory.

There were scuffles on the pitch, arguments between players and coaches and some real shows of unsportsmanlike behaviour, from both sides.
To be honest, you couldn’t have blamed Virgil for harbouring some lingering resentment. Thankfully, Mac Allister wasn’t involved directly in anything that went on. But some of his teammates behaved appallingly that day.
So too, did some of Van Dijk’s. Wout Weghorst in particular seemed to rub the Argentine’s up the wrong way.
But such is Virgil’s easy-going nature, this has stayed where it should – out on the pitch. Mac Allister may have been slightly nervous about meeting Liverpool’s £75m man in particular, but this little act will hopefully now render that a moot point. Van Dijk already taking on his new vice-captain duties, you love to see it.
