Newcastle United are reportedly in talks to sign Federico Chiesa, with Liverpool believed to be interested in the Juventus superstar.

According to La Repubblica, the Toon have been in contact with the Italian international’s representatives over a potential deal, with Juventus open to selling Chiesa this summer for as much as €60m (£51m) amid interest from the likes of Newcastle and Liverpool.

As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, Jurgen Klopp is believed to be a big fan of the 25-year-old winger, yet given Liverpool’s attacking options, a move this summer was always going to be unrealistic for the Reds, whereas Newcastle now have a huge appeal for a player like Chiesa.

Having already signed fellow Italian international Sandro Tonali this summer, Eddie Howe could add another member of the Azzurri squad to his ranks in the form of Chiesa, who could now be open on a move to St. James Park ahead of their return to the UEFA Champions League.

Indeed, whilst Liverpool would have been a dream destination for the forward, a move would have made little sense given how strong Klopp’s wide-attacking options are. Meaning that Chiesa could now be closing in on a move to Newcastle this summer.

Chiesa is without question the sort of the attacker that would flourish under Klopp at Liverpool, and with Newcastle now leading the race for the forward, the Reds could soon regret making a move for the Italian despite the squad logistics such a transfer would cause.

As we know, Chiesa is world-class on his day and a player that many clubs would love to have on their books. And Newcastle signing the winger could be a kicker for Liverpool if the forward finds his feet in the English northeast after leaving a team as big as Juventus.
