Liverpool are reportedly open to the idea of letting Thiago Alcantara leave for free next summer, with the midfielder’s contract due to expire in 2024.

According to journalist David Lynch, the Reds are more than happy to let the Spanish international walk for free next year should Thiago not be sold this summer, with the 32-year-old attracting interest from the likes of Saudi Arabia and Turkish sides Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.

Signed for £25m in 2020, injuries and a lack of consistent form has plagued Thiago’s time at Anfield. And there’s now an understanding at the club that they are open to letting the midfielder leave for free should no offer come in for the former Bayern Munich man this summer.

Lynch said on Liverpool’s new stance on Thiago: “As far as we understand, he’s not one where Liverpool are going to push him out of the door. He’s still got 12 months remaining on his contract and Liverpool might be happy to see that out.

“Obviously, his injury record and his age means there’s no real talks on a potential extension, meaning Liverpool might be happy to see him leave on a free. They’re not going to push him out of the door, but if an offer arrives around the money Liverpool are looking for, they will have a difficult decision to make.”

Liverpool should look to cash in on Thiago whilst they still can

Thiago leaving Liverpool for free currently feels like the most likely outcome for the Spanish midfielder in the next 12 months. Yet the Reds should still look to cash in on the FC Barcelona academy graduate when they still can this summer.

As we know, Liverpool could benefit greatly from earning a little bit of money from Thiago as well as saving his wages on the payroll this window, with a move for the 32-year-old something that could allow the Merseyside club to sign a third midfielder in the market.
