Liverpool are reportedly focused on signing Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, with officials at the club huge fans of the teenager’s profile.

According to the Daily Mail+, Liverpool are eager to lower the average age of their squad this summer with the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai already replacing James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, with 32-year-old Thiago Alcantara also linked with a move away from Anfield.

And Lavia is the player who could next be signed by Liverpool, with the 19-year-old enjoying a breakout year in the Premier League with the Saints last season despite their relegation back down to the Championship. Yet the Reds face some strong competition for the youngster.

As per the newsletter, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are all chasing Lavia, and with Liverpool looking to sell before they can spend again, the Anfield side could be in danger of missing out on the Belgian international if they’re too cautious.

Indeed, Lavia would be an incredible signing for Liverpool given what final piece of the puzzle they need for their midfield. And with insiders at the club now sold on the idea of recruiting the Southampton star, action soon has to be taken to make a deal possible.

Lauded by Total Football Analysis as a ‘phenomenal’ talent, Lavia is easily one of the most exciting prospects in England. And with Liverpool now keen on the midfielder, the Reds have to ensure that they win the race for the 19-year-old in the coming weeks.

As we know, Liverpool have the reputation and the finances to pull off such a deal. Yet with the Reds biding their time, rival clubs could soon overtake the Anfield side in the race to sign Lavia, who might not want to wait all summer for a transfer to happen.
