Liverpool are now reportedly no longer interested in signing Federico Chiesa, with the Reds choosing to back away from a deal for the Juventus winger.
Football Transfers claim that the Anfield side are not chasing the Italian international, with the Serie A giants keen to sell the 25-year-old attacker as Juventus look to raise funds to help with their ongoing financial scandal as well as to spend on transfers of their own.
Valued at £51m, Chiesa has been linked with Liverpool for the good part of four years, and rumours again emerged this summer despite Jurgen Klopp’s side focusing on midfielders and defenders. And this update has seemingly put a nail in the coffin over a potential deal.
Lauded by 90min as a ‘world-class’ forward, Chiesa would have certainly been an exciting signing for Liverpool had the Reds made an official move for the winger. However, given how stacked the Merseyside giants are in the position, signing the 25-year-old would have been pointless.
Moreover, Liverpool still have more work to do in the market, with a third midfield signing a centre-back being targeted by Klopp ahead of the Premier League season next month. Meaning a move to Chiesa would be obsolete for the Reds.
Liverpool moving on from Chiesa is the right decision
With Liverpool having an incredible selection of wide-attackers, links to Chiesa this summer always felt out of place. And this latest update all-but confirms that the Reds have moved on from the Italian, who would have been too much of a good thing for the Anfield side.
As we know, defenders and midfielders are needed at Liverpool in the market, and whilst Chiesa would have been a great attacker for Klopp’s system, signing the Juventus would have been pointless given what the Reds need in the window ahead of the new campaign.
