Liverpool could reportedly make a later move for Micky van de Ven if Tottenham were to pull out on a deal for the VfL Wolfsburg defender.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Dutch youngster could be placed back on the transfer market if the north London side decide to sign Edmond Tapsoba from Bayer Leverkusen, a deal that would put Liverpool back in contention for Van de Ven.

The Bundesliga centre-back has been linked with a move to Anfield this summer, and with Liverpool now believed to now be looking at signing a defender. And Tottenham throwing in the towel for the Wolfsburg star could be a huge boost for Jurgen Klopp.

Praised by Volendam director Ruben Jongkind as a defender with ‘incredible speed’, Van de Ven could be an excellent fit for Liverpool should Tottenham change their stance on the Dutchman. And supporters will be hopeful that Spurs drop the ball on the 22-year-old.

Romano said: “In case Tottenham decide to sign Tapsoba and not Van de Ven, he will be back on the market, and I think this is a situation to watch again. In that case, it really depends on the price tag because Wolfsburg are asking for big money but if this was to change in the next few days I think this could be one to watch for many sides.”

Tottenham remain the clear favourites to sign Van de Ven. Yet with Ange Postecoglou’s side now stalling on a deal, there is a realistic chance that the defender could be back on the market, a situation Liverpool simply have to pounce at.

At 22, Van de Ven is one of the most exciting centre-backs in all of Europe. And Liverpool adding the Dutch youth international to their ranks this summer would be quite the coup for Klopp and his plans to build his squad for the present and for the future.
