16-year-old prodigy claims Liverpool are trying to sign him, he can see himself at Anfield

Nigerian teenager Daniel Daga has claimed that Liverpool are one of the sides looking to sign him.

The 16-year-old, who is described as a ‘prodigy’ by Nigerian radio station Nigeria Info, has told the same outlet that he expects to be playing ‘at the top’ in just a couple of years.

“Yeah, many clubs,” said the teenager, when asked if he’s been approached to join any European teams. “Many clubs apart from AC Milan, Liverpool, Anderlecht. Many other clubs are looking for me – Watford, Club Brugge, in Denmark, Midtjylland.

“It’s true they are all looking [at] me. But I’m not yet at the point because I’m looking for where I can play. Because in two years I’ll be playing at the top like [Victor] Osimhen.

“I want to see myself playing at Real Madrid, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd; play in the Champions League; play in the FA Cup, win the FA Cup and win Champions League in the next five years.

“Because I have the belief, the confidence and boldness that I’m going to be there in the next five years and I’ll be playing in the Super Eagles [the Nigerian national team].”

Daga makes Liverpool claim

There’s no way of verifying whether or not Liverpool have indeed made an approach for Daga at this stage.

But what we can say is that plucking young players straight from Africa isn’t currently in the Reds’ playbook.

Information is a little scarce on Daga. But it seems as though he’s playing for FC One Rocket in his homeland having just returned from a loan spell with Dakkada FC.

What we know for sure is that he was a part of Nigeria’s side at the recent U20 World Cup in Argentina. There, he started all five of his team’s games as they made it all the way to the quarter-final. Impressive, for a 16-year-old.

A key part of a good side, it sounds like he caught the eye of many a European scout, including – so he says – Liverpool.

Given the tradition of Nigerian players featuring in Europe, we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Daga follow that path.

But looking at the other sides he mentioned, we think any one of them would be more likely than Liverpool to sign him. We’d love to be surprised, but you can easily see him heading to an Anderlecht, a Midtjylland or a Brugge and doing well. From there, who knows, maybe Anfield will eventually await him.
