Paul Merson has lauded Liverpool’s approach to signing Alexis Mac Allister, with the Reds completing a deal for the Argentine international for just £35m.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, the former Arsenal forward was full of praise for how Liverpool went about their business with Brighton & Hove Albion for Mac Allister, with Jurgen Klopp’s side triggering an under-reported release clause for £35m.

With Mac Allister one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, Liverpool signing the South American for such a good fee is yet another incredible piece of business from the Anfield side. And for Merson, the Argentine could be an incredible acquisition for Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Merson said: “I’m a big fan of Alexis Mac Allister, he’s very simple and effective. He’s not got major legs and isn’t the strongest midfielder you’ll see, but he’ll keep things ticking for Liverpool in the center of the park and play a big role in their build-up play.”

Indeed, many have noted how impressive it was from Liverpool’s end to sign Mac Allister for just £35m, and Merson is no exception, with the pundit adding: “He’s an absolute bargain for £35m, but I still think Liverpool need more midfield reinforcements.”
