Liverpool are reportedly making big steps in signing Romeo Lavia, with the Reds looking to beat Arsenal to the Southampton midfielder.

According to journalist Dean Jones, the Anfield giants are intent on winning the race for the Belgian international, with the Saints demanding a fee of £40m for Lavia as the 19-year-old looks primed to return to the Premier League this summer.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Lavia. However, Arsenal are now seemingly posing a big threat to Jurgen Klopp’s side after their capture of Declan Rice, with Mikel Arteta now looking to add the teenager to his ranks this window.

Indeed, Arsenal signing Lavia will be a huge blow for Liverpool. Yet it now sounds like the Reds are putting plans into action to sign the former Manchester City wonderkid, who could soon be heading to Merseyside if Klopp and his team can win the race.

Jones said: “Romeo Lavia is the name touted that seems most obtainable. Reaching a fee for £40m to take him from Southampton is more reasonable than having to structure a transfer fee upwards of £80m for Moises Caicedo at Brighton. The problem with Lavia is that Liverpool are taking big strides towards winning that race.”
