French football expert Jonathan Johnson has said Liverpool dropping their interest in Khephren Thuram might have been a good thing in the long run.
Speaking to CaughtOffside, the journalist stated that the OGC Nice midfielder could benefit with an extra year of Ligue 1 football, with Thuram heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer as well as to the likes of Newcastle United.
However, Thuram is now believed to no longer be a target for Liverpool, with the Reds instead signing Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig in a £60m deal. And although the Reds are still interested in signing a third midfielder, the French international is now seemingly off the table.

Indeed, whilst Thuram could have been a good fit, Johnson has said that an extra year in France could do the midfielder some good. The reporter said: “While I rate Thuram as a phenomenal talent, I do think that a move up to the Premier League might not have come that easily to him at this stage of his career.
“Still, it’s not necessarily the worst thing for his development. I’ve felt for some time that Thuram might be better served by staying in Ligue 1 for a bit longer, maybe for one or two more years.”
Liverpool could go back in for Thuram later this summer

Thuram might be off Liverpool’s radar for now, but things can change very quickly in football, and the midfielder could soon be back on the Anfield side’s agenda depending on what happens in the coming weeks in regards to their search for a third central signing.
As we know, Romeo Lavia is the new target for Liverpool, and if the Reds are to miss out on the Southampton midfielder, Thuram would be an exceptional alternative even if experts now think the youngster should remain in France with Nice for one more season.
