Besiktas sporting director Ceyhun Kazanci has called Liverpool to ask about signing Joel Matip this summer.
Matip is potentially up for sale at the moment, having entered the final year on his Reds contract. And according to Turkish outlet Fanatik, the 31-year-old is wanted by Besiktas.
They claim that whilst in England recently, Kazanci spoke to Liverpool to ask about a potential deal for Matip.

The sporting director is also said to have been in touch with the centre-back’s agent, to get an idea of his client’s salary demands.
Fanatik claim that ‘negotiations are continuing’ over Matip, although there’s no comment on Liverpool’s stance on letting him go.
Liverpool set for Matip decision
If a decent bid comes in for Matip, you’d imagine Liverpool wouldn’t be averse to accepting it.
With 12 months left to run on his contract and turning 32 later this month, it’s unlikely to be much at all. But after losing four more players on free transfers this summer, anything is better than nothing.
Liverpool can’t really afford to let themselves turn into a club who simply won’t sell players when the time is right.

Nevertheless, if Matip is to leave Anfield this summer, a replacement will have to be found. He may no longer be a first choice pick under Jurgen Klopp, but he still started 12 Premier League games last season.
With questions marks dangling over the fitness of Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate, Liverpool will need a new face on board.
Clearly, it will cost them a lot more to get someone in than they’ll receive for Matip. But every little helps in the transfer market.
If Besikitas do follow up their interest with a concrete offer, then the Reds will have decision to make.
