Liverpool have reportedly had a transfer offer rejected for Perr Schuurs, with Torino also knocking back a bid from Napoli for the defender.

According to Tuttosport, the Reds have had an approach for the Dutch centre-back shot down by the Serie A side, with Torino keen to keep hold of Schuurs this summer after an incredible debut year in Italy that has now attracted interest from the likes of Liverpool.

Valued at £43m according to a previous Tuttosport report, Liverpool’s bid fell way short of Torino’s asking price, with Napoli’s offer also suffering from the same error. And as a result, the Turin-based side now stand in a good position to keep hold of Schuurs.

With Liverpool in the market for a defender, though, there’s a good chance that the Reds could launch a second bid to sign Schuurs, especially if the Anfield giants can secure a third midfield recruit before the start of the new Premier League season.

Indeed, Liverpool’s chase for a new centre-back could go all the way to the wire this summer. And as a result, the Merseyside giants could bide their time with Schuurs and make a late bid to lure the Dutchman away from Torino if the second offer is acceptable.

Liverpool can afford to play the long game with Schuurs this summer

As mentioned, Liverpool are expected to dip into the market at some point this summer to sign a defender, with Schuurs an ideal candidate based on his age and style of play. Yet with midfield still clearly the priority for the Reds, Jurgen Klopp can afford to play the waiting game with the Dutch talent.

With one more midfield signing seemingly what Liverpool are striving for next, waiting for a player like Schuurs could be worth it when the window ends in September. And as a result, waiting for the right time to strike could be ideal for the Reds in this transfer scenario.
