Liverpool were reportedly interested in Sandro Tonali before Newcastle United broke the bank to sign the Italian midfielder.
According to the Athletic, the Reds were monitoring the 23-year-old maestro after an impressive few seasons at AC Milan. However, Eddie Howe’s side today announced that Tonali had signed for the club in a deal believed to be worth as much as £60m.

As per the Athletic, the transfer is the biggest ever concerning an Italian player and the largest sale Milan have ever made in their history, with Tonali regarded as a future captain of the Azzurri and a midfielder who could take Newcastle to the next level.
Indeed, with Liverpool making their own blockbuster signing already this week in the form of Dominik Szoboszlai, there will be little jealous from Reds supporters over Newcastle’s acquisition of Tonali, even if the midfielder is one of the best in his position in Europe.
Newcastle signing Tonali should not lead to jealousy from Liverpool

Tonali could easily start for most Premier League clubs, yet even with Liverpool still in the market for another midfielder, supporters should not be jealous that the Reds missed out on the Italian international to a rival team in Newcastle.
As we know, Liverpool have already spent big on midfielders this summer. And although Tonali could have been another world-class addition for Jurgen Klopp, the Anfield side are firmly on the path to remedying their squad, with one more addition expected if reports are to be believed.
