Josko Gvardiol sent an emotional message to Dominik Szoboszlai as Liverpool announced the capture of the RB Leipzig playmaker this weekend.

Taking to Instagram, the Croatian international and soon-to-be Manchester City defender reacted to Szoboszlai’s goodbye message from Leipzig with ‘my boy’, followed by a heart and crying emoji indicating that the 22-year-old is sad to be separating from Szoboszlai.

Despite the emotional departure, Gvardiol won’t have to wait long to be reunited with Szoboszlai in England, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Pep Guardiola’s City are closing in on a deal to sign the wonderkid centre-back as their marquee signing of the summer.

Indeed, whilst that deal takes time to be completed, Leipzig will continue to mourn Szoboszlai’s move to Liverpool, with the Hungarian international one of the most talented players to feature for the Bundesliga side and a figurehead who led the east German side to two DFB Pokal titles.

Gvardiol’s reaction on Instagram to Szoboszlai’s departure will hit a note for some supporters. Yet with the Croat close to joining City, the defender will soon have a chance to take on his former Leipzig teammate in the Premier League, where a clash against Liverpool could be quite the affair for the centre-back.

As we know, Gvardiol and Szoboszlai were close friends at Leipzig, and with the pair soon facing off against each other in England with City and Liverpool respectively, it won’t take long for the duo to spark a new phase in their friendship as rivals for the Premier League title.
