Tony Cascarino has claimed that Darwin Nunez might not have what it takes to cut it at Liverpool, with the forward likened to former Chelsea man Timo Werner.
Speaking on TalkSport, the pundit made the astonishing claim that the Uruguayan international has all the makings of being another big-money flop in the Premier League, with Cascarino comparing Nunez’s form to that of Wenrer and Fernando Torres’ at Chelsea.
The two former Blues strikers were heavily criticised during their time in west London for their lack of goals and ability to miss easy chances, something Nunez has suffered from since signing for Liverpool last summer from Benfica.

However, with the South American hitting 15 goals in all competitions last season, there’s hope from Liverpool fans that Nunez will hit the heights many expect the 24-year-old to reach at Anfield. However, Cascarino is not convinced in the slightest.
The pundit said: “Klopp has seen a lot of attack-minded players come in in the last year or so. But Nunez, I just don’t know. He’s had a whole year at Anfield and it’s not worked out. He’s had a disappointing year, it looks like to me he’s going to be a Torres or a Timo Werner. He’s not going to convert the amount of chances he gets.”
Nunez can dismiss Werner comparisons with ease next season

Comparisons between Nunez and Werner are easy to make, yet such claims are lazy given how different the two players are beyond their natural positions. And for the Liverpool man, the former Benfica man has the potential to establish himself as a superstar.
As we know, Nunez will be fully adapted to life in the Premier League after his first season in England. And with 15 goals already under his belt, the striker has the potential to blow this tally out of the water if given the chance to shine alongside the likes of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah.
