Levi Colwill has reportedly told Chelsea is he is currently unwilling to sign a new contract, with Liverpool keeping tabs on the England youth international.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the centre-back won’t sign a new deal with the Blues until the club finalises his role in the squad next season, with Colwill set on being a start for Mauricio Pochettino’s side after a breakout Premier League year last campaign with Brighton & Hove Albion.
As a result, there’s a chance that Liverpool could sign the defender should Colwill decide to leave Chelsea this summer. However, with Brighton already having a £40m bid rejected for the youngster, the Reds could have to break the bank for the centre-back.

Yet this update from Romano is promising, with the journalist saying: “Chelsea offered Levi Colwill a new contract, it was a verbal conversation with his agent, but from Levi Colwill’s side, it was kind of ‘wait, we don’t want to discuss anything now’, so Levi is not in negotiations with Chelsea now. It is not about the salary it’s more about the project.
“Levi Colwill doesn’t want to be a backup player, he wants to be an important player. He wants to have kind of guaranteed game time, he wants to feel important. Otherwise, he would be prepared to move, but the reality is also that Chelsea have no intention to negotiate.”
Liverpool could have a chance at signing Colwill later this summer

Playing time seems to be the only thing Colwill has on his mind heading into the new season, and with Chelsea one of the most unfriendly clubs in the Premier League when it comes to starting youth players, a move to Liverpool could now be on the cards for the defender.
As we know, Liverpool are no strangers to giving regular minutes to young players if they’re good enough to start. And Colwill firmly falls into this category, especially with the Reds competing in the UEFA Europa League next season.
