Liverpool have reportedly made enquiries to sign VfL Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven, with the Dutch youngster firmly on the Anfield side’s radar.

According to 90min, the 22-year-old has been subject to approaches from Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp looks to bring a young centre-back to Merseyside this summer, with Van de Ven seemingly a target for the Reds after a breakout year in the Bundesliga.

However, as per the report, Tottenham are also in the race to sign the Wolfsburg titan, with the north London side already in talks to bring Van de Ven to the Premier League in a move that could serve as a hammer blow for Liverpool in their attempt to recruit the defender.

Lauded by Football Talent Scout as a ‘tremendous’ talent, Van de Ven is seemingly bound for England this summer having been approached by Liverpool and now Tottenham. Yet despite talks with Spurs, Klopp’s side could be better suited for the Dutch youth international.

Indeed, Liverpool’s participation in the UEFA Europa League means regular minutes each week for the 22-year-old. Whereas at Tottenham, Van de Ven could find himself starting on the bench as Ange Postecoglou gets to grips with his new side next season.

Valued at £34m as reported by the Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, Van de Ven won’t come cheap this summer. Yet for Liverpool, they can’t allow an English rival in Tottenham to sign the young defender, who could become a superstar in the Premier League.

As we know, the centre-back is progressing at a rapid rate after just one year in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg. And for Liverpool, they have to ensure that they’re the victors from the transfer saga as Tottenham look to crank up the pressure for the 22-year-old.
