Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha has praised Liverpool’s signing of Alexis Mac Allister.
Liverpool completed a handsome looking deal to take Mac Allister from Brighton a couple of weeks ago. And speaking to ESPN, Onuoha admitted that, despite his City allegiances, the move was an ‘exciting’ one.
“I think it’s a really good signing,” said the 36-year-old. “I think Liverpool needed some element of excitement because it feels like they’re going through a transition as such.

“I’m interested to see who he’s playing instead of, because they’ve still got the likes of [Curtis] Jones who stepped up in the second half of the season. I’d be interested to see what that midfield looks like.
“It’s a great signing in my opinion. Argentine international, another penalty taker as well, someone that’s going to be linking the play really well, getting on the ball, controlling games, he’s nice, man. That’s annoyingly a great signing for Liverpool!”
Mac Allister the perfect fit for Liverpool
As the furore continues over who Liverpool may or may not sign next, it’s worth remembering that they’ve already got one in the bag.
By all accounts, Mac Allister was Jurgen Klopp’s first choice this summer, having conceded defeat in the hunt to sign Jude Bellingham.
With that in mind, it’s been a great start to the window for the Reds.

Mac Allister may not be Bellingham, but he has the potential to be brilliant for Liverpool. Intelligent, technical and versatile, the 24-year-old should add another element to his new team. And all of that for a reported fee of around £35m.
As ever, Liverpool’s top-six rivals will largely outspend the Reds this summer. The battle to sign Declan Rice, for example, is currently waging. It looks like whoever gets the England international will end up paying £100m.
As a result, Rice will certainly be more ‘hyped’ than Liverpool’s signing of Mac Allister. But we’ll see who has the greater impact.
Of course, it isn’t a given that Mac Allister will be the perfect fit we all hope he will. As Onuoha suggests though, it would be a slight surprise if he wasn’t.
