Don Hutchison can’t believe transfer rumour he’s reading about Liverpool

Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison has rubbished rumours of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen arriving at Anfield.

Osimhen was surprisingly linked with a move to Reds over the weekend. However, posting a screen-grab of an article from The Daily Mail on his Twitter page, Hutchison has poured cold water over the idea, as much as he’d like to see it happen.

“Silly season is upon us again I see,” wrote the 52-year-old. “Liverpool pulled out the 95million J Bellingham race but can now afford 150million.

“I mean don’t get me wrong any1 that knows me, knows how much I think Osimhen is incredible! He is my fave out there #OneManWreckingMachine [sic].”

Favourite or not, we’d have to agree with Hutch here. There’s no chance this one happens.

No chance for Liverpool and Osimhen

If anyone needed further proof that Liverpool absolutely won’t be in for Victor Osimhen this summer, they need only look at one man: Jorg Schmadtke.

As many will know, the Reds’ newly appointed sporting director was the man in charge of shaping Wolfsburg’s squad from 2018 until earlier this year.

What fewer may know is that in that time, Schmadtke sold Osimhen to Charleroi for a reported fee of around £3m. Obviously, the Nigerian has improved immeasurably in that time. But it’s safe to assume that Jorg wasn’t a fan.

With that in mind, it’s even more unlikely that Liverpool will be spending £150m on Osimhen this summer.

If it was impossible before Schmadtke’s arrival, it’s now absolutely one of the last transfers we’d ever see happening.

Liverpool don’t need a striker anyway. If they did, we still don’t think they’d be interested in signing the Napoli man.

As Hutchison points out, Osimhen is now one of the very best strikers in Europe. But for the kind of fee it’s going to take to bring him to England, Liverpool will let others battle it out for him.
