Reported Liverpool transfer target Kylian Mbappe has already agreed to join Real Madrid in 2024.

Mbappe has thrown his future into doubt this month, having informed PSG he doesn’t intend to renew his current contract. This had led to all sorts of speculation, including agent Marco Kirdemir claiming that Liverpool are ready to ‘pay a fortune’ to sign the France star.

But, according to French journalist Santi Aouna, that may not matter. Writing on Twitter today, Aouna claimed that Mbappe already has an agreement in place to join Madrid on a free transfer next year. However, PSG will now look to sell him immediately.

“Doha wants to sell Mbappe and expects between €180 and 200M [£155-£172m],” wrote the journalist. “Mbappe already has an agreement with Real for 2024. He is ready to make his last season at PSG but if the leaders tell him to leave…

“No contact so far between the clubs. For the moment, PSG does not want to take the first step towards the Madrid leaders in order to remain in a position of strength in the negotiations.”

Mbappe has Madrid agreement in place

This shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone. Mbappe has been seemingly on the verge of joining Los Blancos for the past two years.

At this point, it feels inevitable that the World Cup winner will end up in Spain. And yet, the links to Liverpool keep on coming.

It’s true that these links aren’t coming from sources traditionally well-connected with the Reds. But they are coming nonetheless. Several times it has been claimed that it’s a straight fight between Liverpool and Real for Mbappe.

Unfortunately for Liverpool, their battles with the Spaniards usually end up going the same way.

Having been knocked out by them in the last three Champions League campaigns – four of the last six, including two finals – they’ve also been bullied by them in the transfer market.

Jude Bellingham admitted that one of those Champions League final losses played a part in him choosing Madrid over Merseyside. Meanwhile, Aurelien Tchouameni also turned down the Reds in favour of the Whites.

So, this latest blow won’t be an unexpected one for Liverpool. If they were ever in the race in the first place, that is.
