Liverpool reportedly received no indication from Jude Bellingham’s camp that the midfielder wanted a move to Anfield despite rumours from some months ago.

According to the Athletic, the England international never explicitly told the Reds that he wanted to transfer to Merseyside this summer, that is despite multiple reports and rumours indicating that Bellingham was keen on a move back to England and specifically to Liverpool.

As we know, though, Jurgen Klopp’s side eventually dropped out of the race to sign Bellingham, with Real Madrid eventually becoming the victors for the English wonderkid in a deal that could be worth as much as £113m, a record fee for a British player.

Liverpool have already looked to move on from their failed pursuit of Bellingham, though. The Reds signed Alexis Mac Allister at the start of the month and there’s now a growing expectation that a second transfer will be made once the U-21 Euros have concluded in July.

Indeed, Bellingham would have been Liverpool’s dream signing this summer. Yet with this new detail now emerging that the player himself never indicated that Anfield was his priority, a move to Merseyside was perhaps further away than what was being reported at the time.

Liverpool missing out on Bellingham will still hurt for many supporters

Given the finances and Liverpool’s lack of a top-four finish, Bellingham was always going to be an impossible deal for the Reds to pull off this summer, especially now when you factor in this latest piece of information. Yet that still doesn’t hide the fact that missing out on the midfielder hurts for supporters.

As we know, the 19-year-old could have been a dream signing for Liverpool in their quest to rebuild the midfield. And with Madrid winning the Englishman’s signature, the Reds can now on move on from Bellingham and bury their ideas of if the wonderkid had joined this summer.
