Mason Mount looked set for a move to Manchester United despite strong links all year to Liverpool. However, a transfer now looks off.
The Times reported this weekend that the Red Devils refuse to improve their third offer to Chelsea for the England international, with the Blues wanting as much as £60m up front as well as add-ons, a demand that has seemingly broken United’s resolve.
As a result, Erik Ten Hag’s side have now walked away from Mount but have left their final offer on the table. And for Liverpool, this transfer bombshell could open the door for the Reds to reignite their interest in the playmaker and to tempt him to Anfield.
Manchester United could have handed Mount to Liverpool

It’s easy to forget just how nailed on it looked like Mount was going to join Liverpool, with virtually all reports up until the end of the season indicating that Jurgen Klopp’s side were going to be the ones to land the England international. Yet we all know what happened.
United entered the race like a hurricane and firmly established themselves as favourites for the Chelsea star. However, with the Manchester giants now having three offers rejected for Mount, Liverpool could find themselves in a position to go back in for the 24-year-old.
Indeed, we are all aware of Liverpool’s interest in Mount, with many pundits predicting that the midfielder could be a dream signing for Klopp and the perfect player to take the Anfield giants to the next level in the seasons to come.

Whilst a transfer could still be hard given Chelsea’s position, Mount will seemingly jump at the chance to join Liverpool given the structure they have in place and how alluring being coached by Klopp will be for the 24-year-old. And United dropping out of the race could be a catalyst for such a move.
Liverpool know they have already been bested by United for Mount already this summer, yet with the Manchester giants now out of the running and the Reds eager to sign a second midfielder, the Merseyside club have to now really think about moving for the Chelsea star after this latest transfer twist.
