Danny Murphy has suggested that Liverpool shouldn’t sign James Maddison this summer, with the Leicester City playmaker linked with a move to Anfield.

Speaking on TalkSport, the pundit claimed that the England international isn’t as complete a player as many suggest as Liverpool look to add to their midfield, with Maddison being rumoured with a £60m exit from the Foxes after their relegation to the Championship.

Maddison has been linked with what feels like every top club in the Premier League since the end of last season. Yet despite the playmaker’s obvious talents, Murphy has suggested that the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City should pass up on signing the 26-year-old.

The pundit said when asked if Maddison has the ability to play for a top Premier League side: “If I was Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp I wouldn’t take the risk. Although he has all those wonderful attributes I have not seen enough of that, that fire in the belly.

“He’s not tackler, he’s not going to go in for 50/50 tackles. And he cares. But I just think when you watch footballers, he’s aesthetically pleasing, he’s technically brilliant and he’ll always make things happen and get people off their seats but does he have the capability of nailing down one position?”

Murphy might be onto something in Liverpool’s interest in Maddison

Murphy is a pundit who often causes confusion amongst supporters than leaving them with thoughts to think about, yet the TalkSport figure could be onto something here in regards to Maddison signing for Liverpool this summer.

Whilst the playmaker could be a good fit for the Reds, Maddison’s lack of defensive awareness could make him stick out at Liverpool, who ideally want all of their midfield-three to have something in each aspect of the game, which could make the Leicester man a poor fit for what Jurgen Klopp has in mind.
