Ryan Gravenberch has been telling Bayern Munich teammates of his desire to leave the club and join Liverpool this summer.
The 21-year-old has been one of the top-linked midfielders to Liverpool in the months leading up to the transfer window. Now that the window is upon us though, there has been little movement in way of a deal being done.
But according to German journalist Kerry Hau, that isn’t for a lack of desire on Gravenberch’s part. Speaking to Liverpool fan site RedmenTV yesterday, Hau detailed the Dutchman’s current feeling towards a move to Anfield.
“I mean, if you give that many interviews saying you are not happy with your situation, then I don’t think you are 100% with Bayern Munich,” the journalist explained.
“I know that they spoke in February already with Liverpool, his camp, and he is very interested to join Liverpool and go to the Premier League, it’s a desire.
“He knows that if Thomas Tuchel says ‘I will count on you 100%’ then there is a possibility that he will stay. So it’s a very difficult situation right now – they will speak. You have to communicate, you have to have a clear plan.

“Last year he joined Bayern because they promised him he would be a starter, to start matches and to gain confidence. Also the possibility to go with the Netherlands to the World Cup and in the end he didn’t play for Bayern Munich and didn’t go.
“He became frustrated, he already told some teammates that he is not happy in Munich and he would like to leave. It’s always a sign as a player if you speak in public that you are not happy. It was not one interview, it was now five, six interviews. Bayern Munich knows he is keen to do something different if Thomas Tuchel doesn’t count on him as a starter and it’s difficult but there’s so much competition in midfield.”
Gravenberch desperate for Anfield move
Just like another reported Liverpool target – Micky van de Ven – Gravenberch is currently away on international duty with Netherlands U21s. And just like Van de Ven, he has been very vocal about a desire to move on during this window.
If we were fans of these two players clubs, we probably wouldn’t be too happy with all this noise. In Gravenberch’s case in particular, Bayern fans must be genuinely tired of hearing about his unhappiness at the club.
Seen through that lens, it’s difficult to see just why the German champions want to keep him so much. The former Ajax man isn’t happy and there’s a very interested club who could double the money they signed him for.

Yes, they’d be robbing themselves of a top player, one Ruud Gullit called ‘wonderful’ [Sport Buzzer], but what’s the alternative? The chances are that Tuchel can’t promise Gravenberch a starting spot in Munich next season, despite the claims of club president Herbert Hainer
Konrad Laimer has already arrived while they were also seemingly in the market for both Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo. Tuchel is clearly leaning towards bringing another in. That’s bad news for Gravenberch.
It could though, be good news for Liverpool. In a summer where they’re waiting for the cards to fall, they now need to start making some concrete decisions.
If they think Bayern will stand firm on Gravenberch, they have to start the ball rolling with other candidates. Should there be a genuine hope that the Germans will let him leave, then now is the time to make that count. Crucial weeks ahead.
